Payroll for retail businesses

What makes retail payroll tricky in Ireland?
Most retail staff are part-time or on variable hours, so pay changes every period. Sunday work must be compensated, though Irish law sets no fixed premium: it is by contract, as an allowance, time off or a higher rate. Holiday pay builds up on hours worked, and seasonal starters and leavers must be reported to Revenue promptly.
How SMEPA solves it
Hourly and variable pay
Enter hours for each person each period. Overtime uses your own multiplier, 1.5 by default.
Seasonal staff
Add Christmas starters quickly, then process leavers cleanly in January.
Premiums and allowances
Add Sunday or bank-holiday premiums as pay components so they appear on the payslip and in the totals.
Several shops, one login
Plans with multiple companies let you run separate entities together.
Frequently asked questions
How is holiday pay calculated for part-time retail staff?
Under the Organisation of Working Time Act, entitlement can be worked out as 8% of hours worked, up to a cap of 4 working weeks. Check the rule that applies to your staff.
Is there a legal Sunday premium?
No set rate. Employers must compensate Sunday work through a premium, allowance or time off, as agreed in the contract.
Can I pay weekly?
Yes. Weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly are all supported.
Does SMEPA include a rota or clock-in tool?
Time tracking is still in development. Today you enter hours on each pay run.
